Pollock Inmate Sentenced for Voluntary Manslaughter
Killed Another Prison Inmate with Homemade Weapon

ALEXANDRIA, LA—Shaun Wayne Williams, 37, an inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, Louisiana, was sentenced today to spend an additional 15 years in prison for killing another inmate, United States Attorney Donald W. Washington announced. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Dee Drell in Alexandria.

Williams was convicted by a jury of voluntary manslaughter in August 2009 for killing another inmate at the prison with a flat metal shank that he constructed from a part removed from a locker located in another cell. WILLIAMS was already serving a 96-month sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

U.S. Attorney Donald Washington stated: “The aggressive position of our office on prosecuting inmate assaults underscores the severity of violent prisoner behavior. This office will continue its efforts to deter inmate assaults with weapons by aggressively prosecuting offenders within the Bureau of Prisons.”

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert W. Gillespie, Jr.
