FEDERAL INMATE SENTENCED FOR ASSAULTING PRISON GUARD
Defendant inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, LA gets 1
40 additional months added to his current 96 month sentence
Shreveport, Louisiana . . . SHAWN JACKSON, age 32, an inmate housed at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, Louisiana, was sentenced to spend an additional 140 months in prison for assaulting a prison guard, United States AttorneyDonald W. Washington announced. Sentencingin federal court is determined by the discretion of federal judges and the governing statute. Parole has been abolished in the federal system.
U.S. Attorney Donald Washington thanked FBI and USP Pollock officials for investigating this case and stated: This prosecution serves notice to those inmates who commit acts of violence in our prisons. Violent conduct will be met with vigorous prosecution seeking the longest possible prison sentence.
JACKSON was indicted in May 2006 and in November 2007, a federal jury convicted JACKSON on one count of assaulting a government employee. In February 2006, while being escorted by one of the prison guards to a unit in the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, JACKSON struck the guard on the side of the head with his fist, then began stabbing the officer with a shank. Other officers immediately responded to the scene and apprehended JACKSON.
At the time of this incident, JACKSON was serving a sentence of 96 months at USP Pollock for a 2002 conviction for assault and robbery of a postal employee.
This case was investigated bythe Federal Bureau of Investigation, Alexandria Resident Agency, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Earl M. Campbell.
