FLORIDA MAN CHARGED WITH MAILING THREATENING LETTERS
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - ROBERT C. MCNAMARA, age 46, of Orlando, Florida, was arrested today having been charged by criminal complaint with mailing threatening communications, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint, MCNAMARA, on two separate occasions, mailed threatening letters to former District Attorney Eddie J. Jordan, Jr. and to New Orleans City Council Member-at-Large Arnie Fielkow. The letters contained crude and violent language and made specific threats of physical harm against Jordan and Mr. Fielkow, as well as Mr. Fielkow’s family members.
MCNAMARA will make his initial court appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Louis Moore, Jr. at 2:00 P.M. today, and the Government will request that defendant be detained.
MCNAMARA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael W. Magner.
