WOMAN CHARGED OF FEMA FRAUD PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT

NEW ORLEANS , LOUISIANA - PETRICE S. TRENT, age 36, a resident of Westwego , Louisiana , pled guilty in federal court to a federal felony of defrauding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.

According to court documents, on September 6, 2005 , PETRICE S. TRENT called a FEMA designated telephone number in order to make a claim for damages, stating that on August 29, 2005 , she resided in Marrero , Louisiana .  In order to support her claims, TRENT submitted false letters from her alleged landlord and a fraudulent lease to FEMA.  Public assistance records revealed that during that time period, TRENT was living near Seattle , Washington .  As a result of TRENT 's false claim that her primary residence was in Marrero , Louisiana , FEMA paid TRENT $17,906.00.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Sean Toomey.
